Hematology, Oncology and Clinical Immunology Department

Diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders, cancer and hematological diseases in children

The Hematology and Oncology Department of the Children's National Medical Center is where children with blood disorders and cancer are treated, including the most complex cases.

Our patients need more than just treatment: they need a systematic approach, an accurate diagnosis and long-term support. We care for the child from the moment of diagnosis through to the end of treatment and the follow-up that comes after.

Main areas

We diagnose and treat:

  • acute and chronic leukemias
  • anemias, including severe forms and thalassemia
  • tumors in children
  • disorders of the blood system
  • conditions that require a bone marrow transplant

The department provides:

  • chemotherapy and supportive care
  • bone marrow transplantation (autologous and allogeneic)
  • outpatient and inpatient care
  • long-term follow-up after treatment

What makes the department unique

This is one of the few places in the country where children receive bone marrow transplants.

It was here that allogeneic transplantation for children with acute leukemia — one of the most complex and high-tech treatments — was introduced for the first time in Uzbekistan.

Every patient is supported by a team of doctors, and complex cases are discussed not only within the Center but also with international specialists through telemedicine and partnership programs.

How treatment works

Everything starts with a consultation and an accurate diagnosis.

The team of doctors then decides on the treatment strategy: this may be drug therapy, chemotherapy or preparation for a bone marrow transplant.

Treatment takes place under constant supervision, with ongoing monitoring of the child's condition and adjustment of therapy.

After the main stage of treatment is complete, the child remains under the doctors' care — an important part of recovery.

Facts and figures

  • 20 inpatient beds
  • 41 bone marrow transplants performed from 2023 to 2025
  • 27 of them autologous and 14 allogeneic
  • 25 transplants performed in 2025 alone
  • regular outreach visits by doctors to the regions to examine patients
  • telemedicine consultations with international experts

Our team and approach

The department has a team of pediatric oncohematologists who care for patients at every stage of treatment.

The doctors regularly train abroad, take part in international conferences and work in partnership with clinics in Turkey, Germany, South Korea, India, the USA and other countries. This allows them to apply modern treatment protocols and review complex cases to international standards.

Common reasons for referral

  • suspected blood disorders
  • frequent weakness, paleness or bleeding
  • suspected cancer
  • the need for a bone marrow transplant or preparation for one
  • cases where the diagnosis has remained unclear for a long time

What we are especially proud of

That we take on complex cases. That we introduce technologies that did not exist in the country before. And that we care for a child not only during treatment, but also afterwards — helping them return to a normal life.
